Cara Matchbox c.1970 Irish Made acrylic on canvas.
I found out today that I am a ‘phillumenist’ 👀😂😂 because I collect old matchboxes and I have a good few of the old Maguire & Patterson Cara boxes which are an iconic irish brand based in Dublin. Basically a hoarder 🤣
Of course the real work of matches is to set fire, but a lot of poetry, song lyrics and poems have also been written in this context, which describes a love match. The idea of setting a spark, of starting a fire, for romantic relationships was the word 'Tinder', (which was originally called Matchbox) and now plays matchmaker between two perfect strangers ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Did you know where a 'match' got its name. It derives from the french word 'meche' which means 'candle wick'. You really needed to know that 🔥🔥They were discovered when a guy called John Walker was mixing some chemicals with a stick and became solidified and when he tried to rub it off the friction caused it to light.
