Elephants, Hares, Pigs and Eggs

Ellie O'Phant

“The idea behind Ellie O’Phant was to create an image that was totally unique to Ireland and also to rekindle some nostalgia for our irish culture. The first image was the telephone box and the second was the irish post box both set in a rural irish scene. When first introduced, the phone box and post box were the means of communication in irish society and first links with the outside world. The box is now nearly extinct in Ireland and I wanted to revive its image and give it life again. Ellie will hopefully connect with the hearts of the irish people, help raise awareness and support for Elephant conservation.” Orla Walsh

What was this about …PAINTING A BRIGHTER FUTURE!

Elephant Parade® is a social enterprise and runs the world’s largest art exhibition of decorated elephant statues. Created by artists and celebrities, each Elephant Parade statue is a unique art piece. The life-size, baby elephant statues are exhibited in international cities and raise awareness for the need of elephant conservation.

Limited edition, handcrafted replicas and a select range of products are created from the exhibition elephants. 20% of Elephant Parade net profits are donated to elephant welfare and conservation projects. Available to buy in Carraig Donn Stores Ireland

The first picture above is of my ‘Harlequin Hare’ that I designed and painted for the Jack and Jill Foundation Hare Parade. The Hare was auctioned off for the Childrens charity to raise much needed funds for families of babies with brain damage nationwide.

Second is my pig..

Pigs on Parade is a public arts initiative organised by the Jack & Jill Foundation that will see 100 unique pieces of art in the form of painted & decorated Pigs designed by leading artists  going on display in public areas around Dublin in February 2015. A little information about my pig!. Pop Art is about challenging the traditions of fine art and this pig presents lots of challenges of his own. POP pig is a little unsure of who he is with zebra stripes and speech bubbles saying ‘moo’ and ‘baa’. But he has a little sense of optimism in knowing he can be anything he want to be. POP pig is brash, young and fun.

And picture number three is my Egg..

I was thrilled to be asked to take part and paint an Egg for the Big Egg Hunt in aid of the Jack and Jill Foundation. Out of the 100 Eggs designed by artists and celebrities in Ireland, I was chosen along with 30 others as a golden egg for auction at the Four season’s gala ball for the Charity. ‘Bean there, Doughnut’ was displayed in the Dundrum Shopping Centre for three weeks before the auction.
